Are there any in-store locations?
I am currently a one-woman creator and travel often so getting my pieces to our shipping facility can be irregular! We do our best to restock new pieces monthly.
However do keep in mind that stock is low when it comes to one-of-a-kinds and if you like something - grab it quick!!
How many people work for Mermaid's Wear?
Currently it is just a mother-daughter dynamics - myself (Emily) and my mom (Violy) <3 who helps out with shipping and processing orders in our cottage home in Ontario, Canada.
SHIPPING & RETURNS
How much is shipping?
We offer free shipping on all US and Canada orders when you spend $100 or more.
Shipping rates in US and Canada under $100 vary based on location.
International rates are available and vary based on tracking preference and shipment business days.
Shipping is automatically calculated at check-out where you can choose different options based on your service preference.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of the purchase date.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

What is the average processing time?
At this time, my dearest mama is in charge of our shipping facility! Please allow 1-4 business days to process and package your piece(s). This doesnotinclude the time that it takes to ship your package.
How long does shipping usually take?
Shipping duration depends on the location of the recipient (you).
Here is our average shipping carrier wait-time readjusted based on our experience:
- Within Ontario 2-5 business days
- Within Canada 3-10 business days
- In the USA 5-14 business days
- Outside of the USA and Canada 6-21 business days
Why is shipping so expensive
Don't get me started! Our shipping facility is run out of Ontario, Canada... and if you're Canadian I BET you already know shipping is a pain. Please keep in mind we are a mother-and-daughter operation and we do our best to keep our operation afloat, of quality, and affordable. As consequence, we cannot offer free shipping to single-product orders.
As of right now we have two discount and shipping options:
1. Free shipping to purchases of $100 USD or more for USA and Canada.
2. If you are residing in the locatity of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, free pick-up is available - just select "free shipping" at check-out.
JEWELRY QUALITY & CARE
What are your reccomendations for jewelry care?
While our products are made with 14k gold filled metals, we still advise the following jewelry care:
Avoid contact with water and moisture. Harsh chemicals and minerals in salt water, sweat, and hard water can react and tarnish the metals after prolonged exposure.
Avoid direct contact with perfume, detergents body lotion, or other chemicals such as insect repellant, or chlorine from pools.
If you do happen to be harsh on jewelry and forget these tips:
Do your best to rinse after every pool and ocean swim with warm fresh water and polish off your jewelry using a soft polishing cloth.
This will help maintain its shine.
What is "14k Gold-filled"? And what does it have to do with quality?
Gold-filled jewelry is hypoallergenic, which is ideal for those of you who have sensitive skin.
Unlike gold-plated jewelry that often tarnishes and leaves skin green, gold-filled jewelry chemically bonds a layer of gold to a copper metal base.
While gold-filled jewelry is typically less expensive than solid gold jewelry, it is actually more durable because it is not as soft. With proper care gold-filled jewelry will look shiny and new, suitable for everyday wear.

SUSTAINABILITY
How does Mermaid's Wear clean a beach with every order?
Currently, Mermaid's Wear is mother-daughter run small business with, Emily, me managing the website and operations while traveling. I am also a scuba-diver and freediver meaning that I am usually always close to a beach! Every time I recieve an order I make it a priority to express gratitude through the act of cleaning a beach close-by.
Why are Mermaid's Wear beach cleans DIFFERENT?
They're different because they're done by me and a small group of friends! We don't out-source our sustainability efforts and keep it small and local! Many businesses sell people on '1 tree planted with every order' and out-source the actual sustainable hard-work. Here it's our mission to internalize the externality of slow-fashion ourselves leading to more inspiration and effective community involvement!
What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is the process of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future. True sustainability is a trifecta of fulfilling the needs of the economy, the environment, and society.
Is Mermaid's Wear 100% Sustainable?
This is a business established in 2018 and is solo-run. My reality is that I have to start somewhere and 100% sustainability is unachievable at a solo-scale.
I do my very best to incorporate sustainability in everyway I can AND engage in alternative sustainable practices to create with intention in mind:
- organized beach cleans
- sustainably sourced sea-glass and shells
- upcycled beads from old jewelry
- supply chain sourcing from local small-businesses only
- biodegradable packaging
- recycled tags and reusable jewelry bags
- slow fashion through hand-made design
Not to mention we recycle scrap metals upcycle every chance we get!
BUT transparency remains is a core value and for now until we grow enough to support ourselves through 100% sustainably, we remain honest.
In short, no, Mermaid's Wear is not 100% sustainable.
